Your Gift & UBC's Vision

Your Gift and UBC's Vision

When it opened in 1915, the University of British Columbia had fewer than 400 students. It's grown in size and reputation since then. With the recent creation of UBC Okanagan, we now have two great campuses, and we currently rank in the top 50 universities in the world.

Our student population has grown to more than 47,000, as well as more than 40,000 non-credit, certificate, and distance education learners. Our alumni, 225,000 strong, are spread around the world, but carry with them many memories of their time as UBC students.

These successes and memories would not be possible without the drive and determination of the UBC students who took part in the Great Trek of 1922, the march and demonstration that persuaded the provincial government of the day to go forward with its plans for a new UBC, built on the Point Grey campus, where UBC remains to this day. This was followed in 1998 by Trek 2000, UBC's unique vision for the new millennium, which aspired to make UBC the best university in Canada.

In the spirit of the Great Trek and Trek 2000, UBC has adopted Trek 2010 as its guiding vision for the future. To learn more about Trek 2010, please visit the Trek 2010 website.
