UBC is privileged to receive support from donors around the world. Tax laws and treaty arrangements vary from country to country.

Canada

Donors receive an income tax receipt for contributions. The receipt may be used to claim the charitable tax credit.

United States

Under the Canadian-US income tax convention, US donors are entitled to an income tax deduction for contributions to The University of British Columbia if the donor or a family member is or was enrolled at the university.

US donors may wish to contribute to The American Foundation for The University of British Columbia where the above circumstances do not apply or if making a gift through a trust.

Hong Kong

The Hong Kong Foundation for UBC Limited is recognized as a charity under the Inland Revenue Ordinance of Hong Kong.

Donations to the Foundation are eligible for tax benefits similar to those received when giving to any other educational or charitable organization in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong citizens wishing to receive an income tax receipt must provide their identity number to the Foundation.

Contributions may be directed to The UK Foundation of The University of British Columbia. Donations are treated in the same way as gifts to other UK charities, including eligibility for Gift Aid.
