Lane, Forster, Chang - UBC Radiology Through the UBC Radiology Academic Enhancement Fund, we have been able to integrate our three new ultrasound-guided biopsy simulators into the residency program. The use of simulators represents a revolution in radiology education, and was highlighted in this year's RSNA's Opening Address. These devices combine computers with interface software to measure performance and teach radiology residents how to manage dangerous situations, give appropriate informed consent, deal with post-procedure complications, and practise biopsies and interventional techniques to acquire skills before entering the clinical domain.
In addition, the Fund supports the recent appointment of Dr. Silvia Chang as the UBC Department of Radiology Teaching Scholar. In this position, Dr. Chang will explore novel medical teaching practices and implement recent advances into our own radiology training. In addition, she will continue to develop the use of the hybrid simulator in resident training, as applications are constantly evolving. In the future, we hope to develop a virtual education store to provide a free, online pool of quality medical teaching resources for both students and faculty members.
The growth and maintenance of these programs, however, is not possible without your help. The UBC Radiology Academic Enhancement Fund is largely supported by the radiology community and our dedicated alumni. We would like to ask you to consider supporting this highly advanced training program with a tax-deductible gift. UBC is dedicated to producing the best radiologists possible to enhance care throughout the imaging and intervention community of BC, and with your help we can ensure this continues to happen.
