Collections form the heart of UBC Library Despite the increasing digitization of information, more print material is being produced now than it has ever been, and at UBC, the popularity of print is enduring: borrowing by campus and community users exceeded 2.5 million in 2009, placing UBC among North America’s top research libraries in the volume of print materials circulated.

Our collections are large and diverse, and include 5.8 million volumes, 5.3 million microforms, more than 833,000 maps, audio, video and graphic materials, and more than 80,000 serial titles.

Among the Library’s crown jewels is the world‐class Wallace B. Chung and Madeline H. Chung Collection, with 25,000 rare and one‐of‐a‐kind items relating to the discovery of B.C., the development of the Canadian Pacific Railway and Chinese immigration to Canada. The revered 45,000‐volume Puban collection in Chinese, now housed at UBC’s Asian Library, contains volumes thought to date back more than 1,000 years.

The Library’s growing online services and electronic resources complement traditional formats. Many Library services can be accessed online, with 90,612 full‐text e‐journals, 551,333 e‐books, and 849 indexes and databases made available any time of day or night.
