The Department of Orthopaedics at UBC is Canada’s premier orthopaedic program. It is committed to improving the musculoskeletal health of the community: locally, nationally and internationally.

As part of our commitment to international outreach, we are currently involved in three exciting collaborations in Uganda:

CAST – Clubfoot Awareness and Sustainable Treatment

Each year, over 100,000 children worldwide are born with clubfeet. In most developing nations, these children often remain untreated, leaving to deformity, disability, depression and despair. With your help, we work to provide universal and effective treatment for individuals suffering from clubfoot and give them a new lease on life.

USTOP – Uganda Sustainable Trauma Orthopaedic Program

Without surgical intervention, even relatively minor injuries – like a broken leg – can be devastatingly debilitating. Working alongside local doctors, we provide surgical support for Ugandans who have suffered orthopaedic traumas as a result of an accident. With your help, accident victims can access the help they need, and be on their way in no time.

Spinal Cord Injury Care – International

A spinal cord injury is a life changing event. Without access to the necessary rehabilitation facilities, the social and economic impact becomes even more devastating. Our department has been working with local staff in Nepal and Uganda to develop sustainable spinal cord injury systems of care. With your help, we can work to reduce the incidence of spinal cord injury in these countries and improve the quality of life for those with spinal cord injuries.
