The UBC Botanical Garden and Centre for Plant Research is a collection of nine gardens growing about 8,000 documented plant species sprawling across UBC campus. The Garden lures backyard gardeners, tourists and leading academics from around the world.
The Garden’s mild maritime climate makes an ideal setting for its unique collections, which feature plants native to all temperate corners of the globe. Among the many benefits that the Garden provides are the research and education opportunities on conservation and temperate plant species and the ecosystems that sustain them. The Garden also demonstrates sustainable horticultural practices.
The 32-hectare (70+ acre) UBC Botanical Garden has been part of the university landscape since 1916. In 1999, the university Senate recognized the strong research possibilities at the Botanical Garden through the approval of the UBC Botanical Garden and Centre for Plant Research. This enhanced academic structure signals a new era of plant research and discovery at UBC.
The Botanical Garden and Centre for Plant Research is a gathering place for innovative ideas and partnerships, both global and local.
Giving to UBC Botanical Garden is an investment in our community and our future. Your generosity advances research and education about the “thin green mantle” that we all share as members of this life-sustaining planet. We invite you to help us pursue our mission through a number of ways: becoming a Patron Member, becoming a Garden Pass Member, promoting the garden on the web or in person, visiting the garden, volunteering and more. Your support is a welcome contribution to our efforts to research and understand plants, share our knowledge with the public locally and globally, teach the next generation of scientists, inspire artists and preserve the natural world.
