In today’s knowledge economy, shaped by rapid technological advancements, UBC Library is a key learning and research destination for students, faculty and the local community, providing them with the resources, tools and collaborative workspaces they need to discover and disseminate new knowledge.
As one of the intellectual hubs on campus, UBC Library fosters innovation and creativity, facilitating access to 5.8 million volumes and hundreds of thousands of electronic resources through its 21 branches and divisions. The University’s pursuit of research excellence is dependant on the Library providing outstanding information resources and services, including high‐performance search‐and‐retrieval systems, research training sessions and inspiring, flexible places.
The Library welcomes about three million annual visitors, engaging the wider community through thought‐provoking author readings, stunning exhibits and cutting‐edge digital technologies. More than 400 Library employees field almost 200,000 annual queries related to groundbreaking medical research to transformative global policy issues and novel art forms.
The difference gifts have made for the UBC Library
In 2010/11, alumni, faculty, staff, students, parents of students, foundations, corporations and other Friends of the UBC Library donated $2,485,255 in funds and gifts‐in‐kind, such as rare books and maps.
