College for Interdisciplinary Studies

We at the UBC College for Interdisciplinary Studies (CFIS) see unprecedented opportunities in the years ahead as we engage with continuous change.

Some of our most complex local and global issues—environment and sustainability, civil society and social policy, health and wellbeing—require the collaborative effort of engaged individuals to ignite breakthroughs, provide deeper understanding, and facilitate practical solutions.

Today CFIS is evolving as a collaborative partner in the incubation of new interdisciplinary initiatives.  Our purpose is to bridge academic disciplines and researchers, and to bring individuals, communities, and supporters into relationships that promote long-term, continuous impact.

We invite you to join us in this transformative process. Your support of our people and projects—through your time, talent, and resources—will expand the margin of excellence and quality of engagement between UBC and the larger community.

Contact Us

We have development professionals who facilitate relationships between donors and our researchers and students.

Team members convene conversations, prepare communications materials, and match strategic priorities between donors and CFIS projects.

We can answer specific questions about existing priority projects or develop a plan of giving based on a donor’s interests. Please contact us or call 604-822-9274 for more information.

Opportunities to Give

There are many ways to get involved, including gifts of time, monetary donations, and other assets.

If you choose to make a donation, keep in mind that your gift will be directed to any area of CFIS that is of particular interest to you.

Support Students

Our students define not only what CFIS is today, but also what it can be tomorrow. Donations to student awards and graduate programs provide much needed opportunities that enhance and improve student life in every corner of UBC.

  • CFIS Student Support Fund
Help interdisciplinary students with teaching and research assistantships, student-organized conferences, and research travel.

Support Research

From the beginning of their careers, our students and researchers have crashed through preconceptions and staked out new frontiers. But breaking new ground has its costs. The pace and scope of change require investments on an ongoing basis. Your support allows us to bring together world-class researchers and students, space and materials.

  • Project Seahorse
Help us advance global marine conservation and management of fisheries, marine habitats, and trades.

Support Community Engagement

The world doesn’t stand still, and neither can we. Our students and researchers have the potential to address critical problems in their communities and regions. But to do so, we must have the resources to respond to new opportunities and challenges. We count on the continuing concern and participation of our donors to help us find solutions that connect us to our world and its people.

  • Friends of Asian Research
Help us advance interdisciplinary research and teaching on policy issues that deepen our understanding of contemporary Asia.
